Shopaholic And Sister

By: Sophie Kinsella
Shopaholic And Sister picks up with Luke and Becky returning to England from their year-long honeymoon journey around the world. Suze (Becky's best friend) has made a new best friend in the interim, Lulu, and Becky starts to feel lonely . . . until she discovers her long-lost half-sister, Jess. The only problem is that Jess is nothing like Becky; she hates shopping, hates needless spending and has a rather cold and controlled demeanor. The two girls clash just in time for Becky's spending habits to severely challenge her marriage with Luke. In the end, Becky and Jess find that they have more in common than they think and Suze and Luke come to Becky's rescue when she is trapped on a mountain with Jess. In the end, in true Sophie Kinsella fashion, the reader is left guessing if Becky's dizzy spells could be caused by a pregnancy. I enjoyed this installment of the "Shopaholic" series because it was a little more of a quick read, and had some new interesting characters. The real problem with this book was how annoying I found Becky's character. In the previous three books, Becky's character was wacky and over-the-top, but in a charming and controlled way. When Kinsella portrays her in juxtaposition with her rigidly controlled sister, Becky became kind of an irritating nag, which breaks my heart because I found her so adorable in the last three books. Of course, the ending was rather predictable, but, as usual, I'm excited to continue with the series. Review by Sarah. (Fiction) 08/06/09
