Communion of Love

By:Matthew the Poor (Matta al-Miskin)
I recommend this book, as a profound expression of the wisdom of the eastern Christian monastic tradition. The book is a collection of writings by Matthew the Poor, who was a leader of the renewal of Coptic monasticism in Egypt. He was (I don't actually know if he's still alive or not, but he would be about 89 now) clearly a very wise and learned man. The book consists of chapters expanding on themes related to the major festivals of the Christian year, with a couple of essays related to the ideas of Catholicism and ecumenism at the end. I highly recommend it. (Non-fiction) 08/15/09
