Island in a Storm

By: Abby Sallenger
A 19th Century historical fictional account that mixes coastal ecology and weather change with the story of haves and havenots on an exclusive barrier island. Isle Derniere/Last Island - a haven from yellow fever, anti slavery sentiment and the havenots - a beautiful getaway spot. The story of Isle Derniere makes it clear that have of havenot, we are all cast upon a allegorical island together. Island in a Storm is a cautionary tale about our relationship with our world which from the beginning takes an advisory approach to recounting a historical episode that harks forward to Hurricane Katrine and global warming.
