Brightly Burning

By: Mercedes Lackey
This novel is a bit melodramatic. Its ending is painfully rushed. Our antagonists are unquestionably "evil" and our protagonists certainly "good" (though almost inevitably self-doubting). I would have loved this book - in my early teens. Now, the angst-ridden Lan is occasionally a bit irritating. Now, the idea of a "lifebound" just creeps me out. I don't believe in fate, or destiny, or any of that tripe - those “wondrous” bonds only seem death knells to free choice. A decent novel, but not to my current tastes. (Fiction) 08/09/09
