They Came To Baghdad

By: Agatha Christie
They Came To Baghdad departs from Christie's typical murder mystery to focus on espionage. The premise is laughably implausible. Victoria, a lately fired, inept typist, follows a man she just met to Baghdad, employing myriad unnecessary falsehoods to achieve this purpose. Victoria remains faintly obnoxious until a dying man wanders into her hotel room, rendering her habitual lies necessary as she is swept into a sea of intrigue. As the novel progresses, momentum escalates despite the inauspicious start, yet the ending twist is fairly predictable. A decent read, but not what I've come to expect from Christie.
