The Risk Of Darkness

By: Susan Hill
Susan Hill has really replaced Elizabeth George for me - there's a similarity in characters but George's novels have begun to seem a bit formulaic (despite the startlement of her last) while Hill is still fresh. This third Simon Serailler tale is based around the familiar theme of serial killers and enhances that theme with interwoven subplots. In a story that reveals the perpetrator early on, these threads allow greater exploration of contemporary and interpersonal issues. As well, open questions pave the way to multiple possibilities for the next book - to which I'm already looking forward. Review by Anne. (Fiction) 07/10/09
