The Manual Of Detection

By: Jedediah Berry
I gave The Manual of Detection three stars for its creative ideas and writing style, but I must admit I couldn't complete the book. It is a mystery . . . which I usually love. This book has an element of supernatural . . . which is a genre I am trying to cultivate. But the basis for this story was too way out there and too hard for me to follow. We meet Charles Unwin, who is a clerk in a large detective agency. We meet him in what appears to be Grand Central Station (in NYC) where he is waiting for a women whom he is fascinated with to show up. But much to his surprise, he is recruited as a detective to find a missing staff member. Have a try at it and let me know what you think. Review by Terrie. (Fiction) 07/18/09
