How To Read A Poem . . . And Start A Poetry Circle

By: Molly Peacock
When I went to school, we had exit tests at the end of the year. One task required us to write a poem which we had memorized. The thing was that we were only asked to write the title, the author and first six lines - so that's all we ever read. Molly Peacock in How To Read A Poem . . . And Start A Poetry Circle asks us not only to read poems but also to use them "to get a hold on life" and then to carry them around "like amulets against the world." This book teaches us how to do that. And then she invites us to share our insights with a circle of our own choosing. How delicious! Review by Louise. (Non-fiction) 07/16/09
