Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

By: Sophie Kinsella
Shopaholic Takes Manhattan (the sequel to the very popular Confessions Of A Shopaholic) takes shopaholic/financial adviser Becky Bloomwood to Manhattan with her boyfriend, Luke. Thinking her television future and love life are going swimmingly, Becky gets blindsided by a scheming employee of Luke's who airs her dirty laundry and disgraceful debt on the national media market. The scandal threatens to ruin Becky's career in finance, Luke's new PR deal in the states, and Becky and Luke's fairy tale relationship. Luckily, all is mended and the reader is left anticipating what Becky's "big news" is (which is hinted at as the book ends). All in all, I feel like this book was better structured than Kinsella's first installment. It seemed more like a consistent narrative, although the plot was pretty predictable. We finally get some insight into Suze and her picture frame business. Luke is relieved of his cold personality and becomes a tangible and loving partner to Becky. Of course, Becky steals the show and keeps the reader laughing the entire way. I'm excited to continue with the series and see where the adorable Becky winds up next!
