Happy Family

By: Wendy Lee
A young Chinese woman, Hua Wu, immigrates to the United States and eventually becomes nanny to the adopted Chinese child of an American couple. She is very homesick for her country, and the close bond she has developed with Lily, the child, has eased this. However, the family structure that Lily has become acclimated to changes, and Hua Wu feels she must take action. I found this book very touching because it shows the strong cultural connection between the nanny and the child that prompts Hua Wu to proceed with actions she might otherwise not have taken.
