Mind The Gap: A Novel Of Hidden Cities

By: Christopher Golden
Jazz discovers her mother's corpse, flees, ends up discovering a cadre of young thieves in the tunnels. Yet even as she settles in, a desire for vengeance lurks. Not a bad premise - yet a few things about this novel bothered me. Something about Jazz's character failed to ring true throughout the piece. Jazz's current closest friend was always quickly killed off. Nearly every male character harbored romantic feelings for our lead. Jazz casually accepted thieving, despite no prior thoughts about the practice. And the ending twist was predictable, the final victory a bit too sudden and way too easy. (Fiction) 07/07/09
