Deus ex machina solutions abound in this novel as a group of pets turned human seek to fulfill their dead master's request. The set up is fairly stereotypical - evil goblins win war and suck life and color out of acquired territories, so ragtag bunch of heroes must bring back color to the kingdom. A bit too black and white for me - literally. Add little to no character development, and a rather unsatisfying story results. (Fiction) 07/07/09
