Star Trek: The Next Generation - Dark Mirror
By: Diane Duane
What if there were another you? A parallel but opposite you? A much darker you . . .. This is the truth faced by Captain Picard and his crew when, while exploring deep space near the outer rim where stars and planets are scarce, the Enterprise is transported to a parallel universe. This "Mirror Universe" was first visited by Captain James Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Dr. "Bones" McCoy over 80 years ago, and is populated by darker counterparts. In this universe humanity reached for the stars not out of curiosity and peace but out of war and conquest. Violence and fear rule this world, and conquering new planets is everything. Unfortunately, the StarFleet of this universe has run out of things to conquer in their "arm" of the galaxy. Therefore, in exploring an old legend of another universe, the Mirror Enterprise pulls the real Enterprise into their world intent on replacing her crew with that of the mirror universe and then conquering our universe as well. Captain Picard and his crew face their most dangerous and emotionally challenging mission ever as they face the greatest enemy one can ever face . . . themselves. This is an amazing story and even someone who has never seen an episode of the series can understand the emotional turmoil of the crew as they see how dark and full of anger and hate they could have been.
