Organs! How They Work, Fall Apart, and Can Be Replaced (Gasp!)
By: Nancy Winslow Parker
Another one for all you parents out there - this is a terrific book for your budding scientist or any curious kid (helps answer at least a few of those "why" questions!). Broken down by anatomical systems, with wonderful illustrations, clear explanations, facts and trivia about healthy organs, not-so-healthy and no longer needed ones. Why do you sometimes have to run to the bathroom? Why do you need to protect your skin from sunburn? Not just for kids - the author was inspired to write the book when she had to have her pancreas removed and realized how little she knew about her other organs, too. Review by Anne.
